Big Tuesday Barrels

Waves were pretty big, probably chest high or bigger on the big ones. Those were pretty hard to ride because by the time you begin to catch the wave, it crash and throw you over. I probably spent half the time underwater... Also had to surf backside to the wave, which really isn't my favorite way being goofy footed and all. Seems like the waves were just breaking that way though. Included are some pics from the last surfing session and a couple others that I just never got around to pulling off my camera.

Small wave surfing at Beach sign #35

Did a little surfing yesterday in the evening hours. Waves were pretty inconsistent and not all that big. I surfed closer to the southern pier, but I'm gonna be going out today to see if I can find a break more like corpus, I'm gonna check out the jetty at the south end of Wrightsville Beach. I need a spot where the waves break further out. They're calling for thigh high and growing waves today. We'll see..

Tues 10AUG10 Topsail Surfing

Drove up to Surf City and Topsail Beach today. It was a 30mile drive from where I live in Wilmington, but parking is plentiful and free. Waves were pretty choppy and the beach was much less populated than Wrightsville Beach. I parked at spot 0-6 and ended up walking about a half mile down to the Jolly Roger Pier. I caught a couple good waves, but there were no surfing signs 500' to either side of the pier. There was a couple swimmers who seemed to enjoy blocking me down the line. I don't get it. After I tried moving they got out of the water then. I headed back and called it a day. Wind was a little strong blowing across the beach and made the waves break up.

Mercer Pier, Wrightsville Beach, NC Sun 08AUG

Today was my first day of surfing the east coast, near North Carolina / Wilmington to be exact. After paying the stupid $2 an hour parking fee (active until 31OCT and ends 6pm nightly) I hit the beach. It was pretty crowded, sorta a mix between Pensacola and North Padre. Waves were pretty big but shrunk while I was there due to the incoming tide. I was down by marker 19 and the sand volleyball courts. There was really only one distance out the waves were breaking, and you could legitimately ride the board all the way to shore! Had to watch out for swimmers though. It was good getting back in the water too. I stayed until sunset, I wanna get out earlier tomorrow up near Surf City or Topsail island. I'm hoping for bigger waves and less crowded conditions. Standby for pictures, I'm operating off of two disposable cameras cause the movers boxed up my good camera.

Out of Corpus for bigger and better things (and hopefully waves)

Hey guys, sorry I haven't written much in the past two months, but there really hasn't been much to report. The waves have been decent, but I've probably only have had one day that the waves were really nice, but then there was a bunch of crazy fish and things swimming in the water. I finally ran out of cold water wax, which I'm thankful I did because it was starting to be way to melty and wasn't providing a stable grip. Warm water wax has done a lot better. I'm moving away from the gulf coast and am headed to North Carolina where the waves should be a lot better. If I'm ever on the gulf for a long period of time, I definitely think it be worthwhile to invest in a good quality long board. I love my KG 7' Orca, but you really need waist high waves to actually get a decent ride. Anything smaller just gets too hard to catch and ride with any pleasure. My car was also broken down for nearly 3 weeks so I really didn't get to ride as many waves as I wanted too.
